The Merrywell, Southbank

Next on our Melbourne bucket list was to dive mouth first into the burger scene and what better way to do this by giving The Merrywell (Crown Towers/Clarendon Street, Southbank) a visit for dinner. It is located on the corner of the Crown complex and if murky water and half naked rowers are your thing, it overlooks the awe-inspiring Yarra River. The Merrywell is split into an upstairs and downstairs area with the former offering a more formal dining experience and the latter providing the pub/bar atmosphere. Their menus are entirely different so it's up to you to decide what you feel like! Myself being a grub, we headed for the pub. (booyah, nicenicenice Bernard)

Little Creatures IPA
Melbourne don't seem to be the biggest fans of schooners so I had a choice between a pot (285ml) or a pint. I eventually decided on the Little Creatures Indian Pale Ale which was intensely hoppy but nevertheless still delicious. I don't think they have this on tap anymore but they do have a great range of craft beer on tap which is a real winner.

Buffalo Chicken Fingers
with Blue Cheese & Sriracha Sauce
These are the buffalo chicken fingers (don't know why they called them fingers because they had bones) with some intense sriracha and blue cheese sauce.

Onion Rings

Veggies are for suckers but when they're in ring form and deep fried it makes them alright to eat. Deliciously fried and temptingly addictive.

The Merrywell
Beef Patty, Bacon, Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato
Onion, Pickles, Special Sauce + French Fries

Moving on to tonight's main act, here is 'The Merrywell'. If this doesn't turn you on ... then I can't really think of anything else that would, maybe fried chicken; but that's a different story all together. Some juicy beef topped with bacon, melted cheese, some LOT, pickles and 'special' sauce. This is the only burger on the menu that comes with a side of chips. It was a pretty delicious burger; super juicy, a medium rare patty, but there was nothing really unique with the special sauce and I didn't feel special after I ate the burger so it obviously didn't work.

The American Burger
Beef Patty, Pulled Pork, BBQ Sauce
Coleslaw, Smoked Cheese on Damper Roll

I must admit, 'The American Burger' looks quite a lonely figure without its best friend on the side but the fries from 'The Merrywell' introduced themselves, so all was saved. Patty enjoyed this one a bit less unfortunately but it was by no means a bad burger. The pulled pork wasn't very moist and the slaw was a little bit nothing but the flavours still came out great. The super soft damper roll was quite a highlight actually, maybe it absorbed all the moisture =).

A neat little place along the water that wont drill a hole into your wallet and The Merrywell also has a great atmosphere inside so you can't really go wrong.
